Rabat, October 13th, 2023 – Executive Director of The Women Development Organization (WDO), H.E. Dr. Afnan Alshuaiby delivered a speech during the opening ceremony of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (ICESCO)’s Celebration of World Mental Health Day event.
The panel discussion took place in ICESCO’s headquarters in Rabat, The Kingdom of Morocco, under the theme of “Together for the well-being and mental health of children, youth, women, and families”.
“..We believe that women are an essential pillar for achieving progress and prosperity in our society. Empowering girls and giving them the opportunity to actively participate in society is an investment in a better future for everyone. We will work with all strength and dedication to provide women and girls with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in their lives,” stated Dr. Alshuaiby during her speech.
The executive director also highlighted her excitement for the expected collaborations between WDO and ICESCO, after the two organizations signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to boost the cooperation on empowering and educating women and girls.
The event aimed to raise awareness of the importance of the mental health of children, young people, women, and families in order to promote concrete solutions to improve their well-being. It also aimed to reduce stigma and discrimination related to mental disorders. It is part of an ICESCO Initiative on mental health and psychosocial support to promote resilience in contexts of crisis and vulnerability.
The event saw participation from representatives of ministries, intergovernmental organizations, civil society, mental health experts, and researchers.
