WDO is the Main Collaborator for Advocating Women's Empowerment Across All Aspects of Food Security

Jeddah, January 17th, 2024 – The Women Development Organization (WDO) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and a joint action plan with the Islamic Organization for Food Security (IOFS) on the sidelines of the 7th Annual Coordination Meeting of OIC Institutions (ACMOI).

The MoU and the joint action plan are a roadmap for WDO and IOFS to provide women with the tools they need to succeed. They will empower and further women and girls’ development in several fields; including Agripreneurship & Investment, Food Security & Food Waste, Agrit-tech & Climate Challenges, and Financial Inclusion for Rural Women.

“In our pursuit, we recognize the significance of creating synergies and collaborative platforms among OIC institutions. By harnessing our collective expertise, we can create sustainable avenues for women to thrive, tapping into their immense potential to drive social, economic, and cultural progress,” stated Executive Director of WDO, H.E. Dr. Afnan Alshuaiby.

On his part, The Director General of IOFS, H.E. Ambassador Askar Mussinov expressed that the collaboration between both organizations is crucial for society at large and highlighted that in agriculture, women always play the most important roles, and this is why they need support.

The 7th ACMOI took place in the OIC’s headquarters in Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on the 17th and 18th of January, 2024, and it aimed to provide an opportunity for OIC Institutions to strengthen their performance as well as foster closer coordination and synergy among them.

WDO is concerned with everything necessary to promote, protect, and advance women’s rights and develop their capacities, skills, and competencies in all fields and aspects of life. On that note, WDO has previously worked in a Tripartite Partnership for Capacity Building in Niger with the IOFS and the Permanent Interstate Committee for Drought Control in the Sahel (CILSS).
